Last week at the New York City IWC Boutique Olivier d’Agay read a passage from “Le Petit Prince,” the famed children’s book written seventy years ago written by his great uncle Antoine de Saint- Exupéry. IWC president USA Gianfranco D’Attis introduced him to gathered IWC collectors and guests.
The reading celebratesthe recent release of two blue-dialed special-edition timepieces made in tribute to this classic children’s book: the Pilot’s Watch Mark XVII Edition “Le Petit Prince” and the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince.” Earlier in the month actor Kevin Spacey conducted a similar reading at the Reading Room at Harrods in London.
Proceeds from sales of these models will benefit the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation, which battles illiteracy by helping to build schools around the globe.
The Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince” is a special edition limited to 270 pieces. Its technical features include the IWC-manufactured 51613 caliber with Pellaton automatic winding and 7-day power reserve. It is the first of IWC’s Big Pilot’s Watches to feature the classical moon phase display.
The Pilot’s Watch Mark XVII Edition “Le Petit Prince” is a 1,000 piece special edition with date and three-hand time on a blue dial.
You might recall that just a few weeks ago, a specially made Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince” sold at Sotheby’s in Geneva for 173,000 Swiss francs (about $191,000). Proceeds are earmarked by the Foundation for the construction of a school with a library in Cambodia.
