The new G-Shock MRG-G2000HT-1A.
By now it should be no surprise to anyone paying attention that G-Shock has been staking out the higher end of the market with its MR-G line of timepieces. Sapphire crystal, nitrogen-hardened titanium and high-end technology, like solar power, atomic radio sync and GPS receivers, are all de rigueur for this collection from G-Shock.
The MRG-G2000HT is next generation MR-G. It takes everything that we loved about the previous generation and adds Bluetooth technology and an accompanying app – MR-G Connected – which allows the wearer to control and adjust the watch’s myriad of functions from their phone (both iOS and Android).

3-Way Connect

This MR-G then adds yet another level of timekeeping accuracy to complement the atomic radio sync and GPS. Called “3-Way Connect” it does exactly what it says on the tin, by using the Bluetooth connection to sync the time to Internet timeservers when the other two methods aren’t available. Now, regardless of where you are, or what you happen to be doing, you have absolutely no excuse for not knowing the exact time. And should you step off of a plane into a new timezone, the MRG-G2000HT will automatically set itself to local time.

But that’s all on the inside, and in this case the beauty is as much without as within. The “HT” in the name stands for “Hammer Tone,” which refers to the unique case and bracelet finish, which has been executed entirely by hand by third-generation Japanese craftsman Bihou Asano.

Third-generation Japanese craftsman Bihou Asano hammers the bezel for each MRG-G2000HT.
The MRG-G2000HT is the third such limited edition to feature the 1,200-year-old “tsuiki” patterning, but this time around Bihou-San has executed the bezel with the kasumi-tsuchime method of decoration, which elongates the hammer strikes into graceful, overlapping lines. The bezel is also DLC coated in a rich blue, referred to as aizome, after the indigo dye that is reminiscent of the colors featured on a traditional cloud dragon.

The watch features a titanium 64 DLC bezel.

The watch dial is protected by a non-reflective sapphire bezel.

The end result is another great addition to the series of Tsuiki MRGs, and if history is anything to go by, this run of 500 pieces will sell out just as easily as the previous two Hammer Tone limited editions did. For those lucky enough to put one on their wrist, they’ll have a truly unique timepiece, and one that seamlessly combines modern technology with the time-honored traditions of hand craftsmanship like no other. That it also happens to be nearly indestructible is merely the icing on the cake.
