(Sponsored post) Gift giving just got a whole lot simpler now that G-SHOCK has combined its advanced Bluetooth connectivity and its G-Steel collection in a series of new solar-powered models. One standout from the all-steel series, the new G-Shock GSTB100D-1A, is available in a silver stainless steel case and steel bracelet. It's an ultra-tough G-Shock watch perfectly tailored to collectors who prefer that their smartphone-enhanced timepiece offers a steel case, a steel bracelet and an analog display.

The new watch utilizes Bluetooth low energy technology to pair with smart phones via the G-Shock connected app. With Bluetooth connectivity, the wearer can – at the press of a button –acquire time information from an Internet timeserver. The result is accurate timekeeping no matter where in the world you happen to be. Other functions include Tough Solar, high brightness LED light illumination, and dual dial World Time.

To all these features G-Shock adds yet another first-ever display: On the dial at 9 o’clock you’ll see a multi-functional rotating disk that is cut to resemble the thick blades of a jet engine. Rotation of the blades reveals red coloring behind the disk, and this change in color is used to indicate the battery level and the alarm on/off setting. The blades will also rotate when switching between the different modes the watch has available.

Rotary Disc. battery level and remaining time on the timer are indicated by a red marker that is visible through the clearance of the blades
The watches are also now thinner than previous G-Steel models, yet they retain all G-Shock level shock resistance. Indeed, G-Shock has developed a new layer guard structure that combines two layers, a metal layer and a resin layer. The result is a more elegant design and, for many, a better fit to the wrist. G-Shock has also deployed a new high density mounting technology that results in a smaller and thinner timekeeping module.

The new G-Shock GSTB100D-1A is equipped with standard G-SHOCK technology of shock resistance and a full 200 meters of water resistance, as well as neo-brite luminous hands, the aforementioned world time / dual time display, daily alarm, stopwatch, countdown timer, date display and a full auto calendar -- all in a 53.8mm case.

Despite the somewhat sleeker G-Steel case, the new G-Shock GSTB100D-1A remains a bold, masculine choice. And while it’s true that any number of high-end sports watches can make a claim to boldness, only a G-Shock can truthfully state that it’s tough enough to substitute for a hockey puck and still tell the time.
The G-Shock G-Steel GSTB100D-1A retails for $400 and is available at G-SHOCK retailers, including Macy's, gshock.com and the G-SHOCK Soho Store.
