According to legend, Makaidos was the king of the dragons and a staunch ally of King Arthur. Their heroic adventures have inspired Hong Kong-based Valimor to create a watch that not only bears the name of Makaidos, but also features a blackened sunburst dial resembling the dragon king’s eyes.

Designed to inspire its owner to seek adventure, each Valimor Makaidos is made using sword-worthy hardened 316L steel shaped along its trademarked Dragon Scales bezel, designed to recall the dragon’s protective sheath.

Within that 42mm case Valimor sets sword-shaped hands that sweep majestically over the dragon-eye dial, each set using a crown resembling the actual crown of the King. To finish off the automatic watch, Valimor has devised a leather strap shaped like the dragon’s backbone that will attach to your wrist using the watch’s strong, hilt-shaped buckle.

High-End Techniques
Valimor explains that it creates the watch’s blackened sunburst dial effect (available in several colors) by using an extremely fine brushing pattern that is then set with twelve multi-dimensional polished metal indices. The hour markers are, like the hands, filled with the Swiss SuperLumiNova BGW9, so the dial will create a mysterious atmosphere in light or darkness.

Valimor also make a non-skeleton Makaidos with date.
Each detail is carefully considered. The hands on the Makaidos are polished by utilizing high-precision diamond cutting – the same technique used on many luxury watches. The hands are then set with the same Swiss luminescence as the markers, which will glow with a clear blue light in the dark.

An automatic Swiss STP Movement, protected to 100 meters of water resistance, powers this skeletonized Valimor Makaidos, which is also available without a skeleton dial and with a date.

The Valimor Makaidos Skeleton (left) and Makaidos Date
The new Makaidos is the second watch on offer from Valimor, which just last year debuted the stone dialed Caliburnus, the company’s first collection. The founders of Valimor, whose name is derived from VALIant and arMOR, created the company after a thorough examination of ancient weapons in European museums and to satisfy their passion for medieval art. Valimor’s mission is to fuse the best of Asian, Japanese and Swiss watchmaking to add maximum value into every single wristwatch. Last year, Valimor obtained design patents in all states of the European Union for its entirely original designs. Price: $699 (Skeleton model).
