G-SHOCK Gilds a Classic

(Sponsored post) Inspired by the first G-SHOCK model (DW5000C), this newly upgraded edition adds a distinctive gold-ion-plated finish to the stainless steel case and band. This new GMWB5000GD-9 is among the latest of several new models G-SHOCK has added to its Full Metal 5000 lineup.

The new model’s retro appeal is clear as it incorporates the silhouette of the first and most iconic G-SHOCK designs by sharing G-SHOCK’s vintage, square case and bezel frame and distinctive brick pattern on the face, all surrounded by a gorgeous gold color accent.

In the years since that original model, G-SHOCK has developed a host of technological advances, and many have been aimed squarely at improving the materials and technology of an already tough watch. Many of those advances are found on the new GMWB5000GD-9.

For example, with the advent of a new three-pronged lug structure, shocks to the connecting pipes and button shafts are dispersed, eliminating potential damage. In addition, fine-resin cushioning parts are inserted between the bezel, case and the inner case. Besides achieving a highly accurate fit, this structure cushions any blow to the watch.

Unknown thirty-six years ago, two-way time sync is today made possible thanks to Bluetooth Connectivity and the G-SHOCK app, coupled with G-SHOCK’s Multi-Band 6 Atomic Timekeeping technology, which provides accurate timekeeping virtually anywhere via radio signals from up to six different transmitters worldwide.

The GMWB5000GD-9 also incorporates solar power technology and utilizes a film rather than glass for the solar panel. This means the watch is fully capable of self-charging even under low-light conditions.

Adoption of an STN LCD with an opening provided in the center of the dial suppresses reflections of outside light to improve the LCD’s visibility with greater contrast and a wider viewing angle.

Finally, the LED backlight on the GMWB5000GD-9 illuminates the LCD with super clear high-brightness light. The watch can even detect ambient light of the surroundings automatically and knows to activate with a tilt of the wrist or not. New features such as fade in/out LED light add further versatility.

Price: $550 and available at G-SHOCK retailers, including select Macy's, select jewelers, gshock.com and the G-SHOCK Soho Store.

When used with the G-SHOCK app, additional cutting-edge technology and features on the watch include:

- Automatic time adjustment (4 times/day)

- World Time city setting: Over 300 cities preset as original points.

- Time & place: Stamping of current time/location on a map in the app with watch button operation.

- Reminder: Notification by the watch of scheduled dates. Blinking and title display + luminescent color changes when illuminated.

- Easy watch setting: Home Time/World Time display switching, Timer/daily alarm setting, Local calendar setting (day of week in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian; month/date display switching)

- Phone Finder
