Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Lady Diamonds

When I think of Cuervo y Sobrinos, I think of watches with bold designs and retro styling dating back to the brand’s 19th century Havana roots. I also think of mostly men’s watches, though a few of the company’s collections offer diamond versions deigned for women. The new Historiador Lady Diamonds, however, is a collection unto its own, with interesting dials and well-placed gems appealing to ladies who appreciate the ease of quartz and the look of a finely tuned Swiss watch.

The retro styling takes its cues from the brand’s designs from the 1950s, and the dials are in two distinct versions: guilloché soleil (in black or silver) and mother-of-pearl (in white or black). I can’t really decide which I like best, though I must admit I am a major fan of guilloché in general, and I do admire the sunray effect found on these watches. Stylized indexes add another pop of uniqueness.

The 34 millimeter case comes in steel with or without diamonds. Versions with black and white diamonds on the case, bezel, horns or exclusively on the dial are also available. The highlight of the collection, in my opinion, is a beautiful, full pavé diamond version set with 200 diamonds for a total weight of 1.2 carats. Another eye-catching piece is a diamond and sapphire watch accented by a sapphire blue satin strap.

The double curved sapphire crystal is a testament to the 1950s, and the solid caseback is affixed by four screws, helping to insure the watch’s water resistance to 3 ATM.  Strap options include the aforementioned satin version, as well as a Louisiana alligator version with a stainless steel folding buckle.
