Nola Martin, iW Magazine’s Managing Editor / Swiss Correspondent Shares her Experience at the Züri Fäscht…
Once every three years, every street corner in Zurich is action packed and colorful as the Züri Fäscht (Zurich Festival) comes to life. Everywhere, even the Rhine River is full of activities from Ferris wheels and high divers to planes and fireworks to the entertainment of 2.3 million visitors.
Those attending the festival over its three days indulged in ice cream and culinary delights including traditional Swiss to Australian Barbecue with plenty of drinks to go around. Traveling through the crowds, I witnessed a tight ropewalker across the Rhine River, acrobatics in the streets and in planes overhead plus music of all kinds; from techno to jazz.
The highlight by far, and I tip my hat to the precision and superb timing of the Swiss, was the firework show or ‘Classical Pyrosymphony.’ To introduce the show, stuntmen jumped out of planes equipped with lit parachutes adding a twinkle of light to the dark sky, including Zenith’s very own ambassador Felix Baumgartner. The firework show then started and was choreographed perfectly to the classical music of Johann Pachelbel, Edward Grieg, Yann Tiersen and more.
My first experience at the Züri Fäscht proved an impressive show for all the senses. Remember to mark your calendar for July 2016, as the Züri Fäscht is sure to leave a lasting impression!
