Blancpain’s Ocean Commitment is an ongoing multi-year project with an intent to foster awareness, provide resources and incite interest in the health and wellbeing of the world’s oceans. Vice-President and Head of Sales Marc Junod credits Blancpain CEO Marc Hyek, and avid diver and environmentalist, with maintaining the company’s eye on this core concern, which, he says, is part of the DNA of the brand. Blancpain’s tradition in the world of diving is a long one, since over sixty years ago, then-CEO, Jean-Jacques Fiechter, himself an avid scuba diver, produced the emblematic Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. The collection welcomed its newest iteration with the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe just a few years ago.
The Ocean Commitment Exhibition, which is a tangible representation of Blancpain’s ocean-centered largesse, made its January 28 debut at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, adjacent to the Blancpain boutique. In addition to Mr. Junod, David Gely, Brand Manager for Blancpain North America, was on hand to welcome guests, who arrived via a watch bezel-themed entrance. Moving color photography by some of the world’s most-esteemed underwater photographers was evident throughout the exhibit, thus adding an emotional component to this scientifically valuable cause. Information about National Geographic’s Pristine Seas Expeditions, as well as marine biologist, diver and photographer Laurent Ballesta’s Gombessa projects, both beneficiaries of the Commitment, were on display.
After a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a private dinner was held during which Mr. Junod spoke about Blancpain’s mission to help preserve and protect the oceans. “Blancpain is particularly proud of the significant results obtained by the different organization with which the brand is a partner,” he said. “To date, more than three-million square kilometers of ocean have already been protected.”
The Blancpain Ocean Commitment Exhibition is located directly in front of the Blancpain boutique, one of 34 boutiques worldwide, at The Forum Shops. It will be open to the public until today!
