An evolution of Blancpain’s 1956 classic, the new Ladybird Ultraplate ushers the manufacture into Baselworld 2016 with a delicate touch. Its first appearance 60 years ago introduced the horological community to the smallest round movement on the market.
Today the Ladybird Ultraplate pays tribute to its predecessor with a similar retro aesthetic, though its heartbeat boasts Blancpain’s recognizable modern technological advancements.
A 6150 caliber resides within the 21.5 millimeter white gold case. The mechanical and automatically wound mechanism is comprised of 180 pieces, 29 of which being jewels. The powerhouse measures just 3.9 millimeters thick and includes a silicon balance spring, limiting future maintenance needs.
Aesthetically, the case is set with 32 diamonds along the bezel, totaling .534 carats. An exhibition caseback allows a partial view of the 6150 caliber in addition to a hand-finished oscillating weight. Dial side, the Ladybird Ultraplate showcases eight diamonds set in white mother-of-pearl, totaling .011 carats.
Finishing the timepiece, a plum Louisiana alligator leather strap with matching pin buckle. The Blancpain Ladybird Ultraplate is limited to 60 pieces, commemorating its first appearance.
