It’s been thirty years since the official founding of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI) by master watchmakers Svend Andersen and Vincent Calabrese. And to commemorate this anniversary, the AHCI asked watchmaker Valerii Danevych to craft 30 wooden ballpoint pens, which will be offered to the public—collectors, art lovers and friends.
The money raised is slated to protect the history of watchmaking via curated and digitized historical AHCI documents preserved at the Musée International d’Horlogerie at Le Chaux-de-Fonds. These documents will be available to watch enthusiasts and others for free. The museum hosts a number of temporary exhibits, as well as permanent displays from its large collection of watches and clocks representing the history of timekeeping.
Valerii devoted more than 24 hours to meticulously work and shape a blend of woods—ebony, rosewood and apricot tree—to create the collection of pens. The result is 30 beautifully handcrafted and hand-engraved wooden pieces, each numbered from 1 to 30. Every pen is also embellished with the logo of the Academy.
